What to Expect at Your First Visit
Before Your Appointment
When you schedule an appointment, we’ll send you a packet of papers from Docusign to sign electronically. We will also send you a link where you can enter your credit card information for payment. We can’t see you until you put down a credit card and sign those papers, so please do those things! (But if you have trouble, we will help you when you get here.)
You will also receive reminders for your appointments based on what you preferences you selected (email, text or phone). These reminders are 2 days and 1 hour before your appointment. If you have a virtual appointment, the link to your video call will be in the reminders.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you ever need to reschedule.
Getting to the Office
Our building is at 2905 S. Brentwood Blvd. Click for directions. It’s a brown brick building that looks like a house.
There are several parking spots in front of the building. If those spots are full, there are also parking spots behind the building (the rear parking lot can be accessed from W. Pendleton Ave.).
There is also one accessible parking spot in front (in front of Brentwood Animal Hospital), and we have a ramp up to our front door.
At the Office
Your appointment will start on time! Since you won’t have to wait, make sure you get here a few minutes early. Bring a list of your medicines with you (or your bag of pills if you prefer) and any questions you want to remember to ask written down. Maybe a small notebook and a pen, too, so you can jot down some notes!
When you arrive, Carly will greet you and say hello. You can grab a drink from our coffee/tea bar and chill out for a minute. Carly loves to chat! Or you can stare at the wall and zone out if that’s your jam.
Next you will be brought to Dr. Jay’s office to talk. We’ll start with a review of your medical history, including any medicines you take and chronic problems you might have. We’ll talk about your health history and how you’ve dealt with health care in the past. We’ll spend a while getting to know each other! You don’t have to worry about judgment or feeling bad about anything. I won’t judge you for what you weigh, what substances you use, or the private details of your sex life.
Then we will move to the exam room to do a physical exam. This is a clothes-on exam, so you don’t need to worry about getting naked in front of a stranger during a first visit! We will check your blood pressure, listen to your heart and lungs, have you say “ahhh,” and do all those things.
Finally, we’ll wrap up. We’ll talk about what we’ve learned and what problems we’ve identified. I might order some labwork for you, and we’ll talk about how to take care of that. Then we’ll decide if you need any prescriptions, which I’ll call into the pharmacy for you. We’ll decide when to follow up again, and how (by phone or in person, or something else).
